I had the privilege of attending the closing ceremony of COSMET 2024 at the University of Kerala, where I was honored to serve as the chief guest.

This event coincided with Alumni Day, offering a wonderful opportunity to meet with former students and recognize their exceptional achievements 🎓, as well as that of the current cohort of master’s-level computer science students.

During my address, I shared key thoughts on how computer science can drive meaningful social change 🌍
🔻 Aligning Innovation with Social Good:
- In this era of rapid technological advancements, computer science has a responsibility to innovate with a vision for societal impact.
🔻 The Role of Universities:
- Institutions like the University of Kerala play a critical role in shaping future technologists.
- Structuring courses and projects with a long-term vision can nurture ecosystems focused on purpose-driven solutions 📊.
🔻 Solving Local Challenges:
- Encouraging students and educators to address local and hyper-local problems 🏘 is key to creating scalable, contextually relevant solutions.
- These challenges often reveal opportunities for impactful and transformative technologies.
🔻 Fostering Social Consciousness:
- By integrating real-world problem-solving into the curriculum, we can inspire students to innovate while uplifting communities.

The possibilities are endless - from developing accessible healthcare technologies 🏥 to optimizing resource management 🌱, computer science holds the potential to empower communities and bridge societal gaps.
It’s not just about coding; it’s about coding with a conscience 💡. Let’s work together to make technology a force for good, driving positive and lasting change.
