It was deeply rewarding to speak at Sasthra Vedhi Online Talks on a subject close to my heart — Technology for Social Innovation, with a specific focus on empowering individuals with vision impairments.

In a world racing forward with innovation, we must pause and ask: Are we building for everyone?

How can we create innovations that not only solve problems — but genuinely restore dignity in people’s lives.🕊

Thus, when it comes to technology for individuals with vision impairments, the conversation must go beyond functionality. The true goal is not only to accommodate, but to enable people to learn, engage, and live independently — with confidence and dignity. 🙏

Some reflections I shared during the session:

🌱 Empowerment through Innovation: Technology should enable individuals to thrive on their own terms — whether that’s in a classroom, a workplace, or daily life.

🧠 Multi-Sensory Learning: Learners with vision impairments benefit from systems that go beyond audio — integrating touch ✋, sound 🔊, and movement 🚶‍♀️to create richer, more immersive learning experiences. Insights from neuroscience can help us build such synchronised, active learning environments.

🧓 Supporting Every Age: From young learners in school to elderly individuals navigating a tech-driven world, inclusive design must address every stage of life — ensuring social participation, mental engagement, and personal independence remain within reach.

🔎 Designing with, not for: Listening to those with lived experience helps us move away from assumptions and towards solutions that are practical, respectful, and empowering.

🌍 Technology with a Social Conscience: When we ask, “Does this solution enhance someone’s ability to live with dignity?”, we begin to design with a mindset that’s not just innovative — but truly human.

Because at the heart of it, the most meaningful technologies are those that help people feel seen, heard, and valued.
